Sweet Bugs Double Z Fold Card

I haven't done a "basic" Double Z Fold in ages! I found this design by Lynn Starzl and decided to give it a try, since I DID have all the supplies and cardstocks here with me! I love how it turned out! These cute bugs are beginning to grow on me!  They are just so darn cute! AND, the can be used for so many occasions!!  Especially big guy or little guy cards!

Measurements:

  • Cajun Craze: 1/2 sheet
  • Pecan Pie: 1 1/2" x 8 1/2"
  • Mossy Meadow: 3 1/4" square
  • Old Olive: 3" square
  • Basic White: 2 3/4" square (front); 4" x 5 1/4" (inside), scraps
  • Cute as a Bug DSP (N): 2 pcs @ 1 7/8" x 5 1/4" (mushrooms), die cuts
To Make This Card:
  • Fold Cajun Craze card base in half and then, again, back on itself, creating a "Z".
  • Adhere the 2 DSP pieces to card base on the front and inside flaps.
  • Adhere the White inside piece to the inside.
  • Next, take the Pecan Pie strip and score it at 2 1/8" and 4 1/4". Create "Z" like card base.
  • The 4 1/4" area will go on the front, and the "Z" will be on the inside/back piece. Flip the strip over and place tear n tape on the exposed areas - half of the front, and the 2 1/8" area.
  • Center this piece onto card and adhere into place.
  • Layer the squares together, as shown.  Either stamp caterpillar or die cut one from the paper and adhere to White layer. If you stamped the caterpillar color in as desired.  I also stamped the little flower/grass on the bottom corner as well.
  • Place adhesive onto the front "Z" band and adhere.
  • Stamp sentiment in black ink onto strip of White.  Cut apart, as shown, and adhere to 2 1/8" area on the inside/back piece. (Isn't this clever!)
  • Finish the inside with a die cut "ant".
  • Finish the front with a couple "dew drops" from the Ladybug Garden Epoxy Dots.
  • Close the card and add a Ladybug to the top of "squares".

Sweet Bugs Double Panel Card

Currently, I'm still in Fargo, ND, after moving Amanda up to her new job at the Dakota Boys & Girls Ranch! It seems like FOREVER since I've been able to stamp!  I've only been home one day since Christmas Day!  I DO still have Stamp Club on Saturday, so I did bring a few stamping supplies along to prep for that!  I couldn't bring too much, because I DO still need to fly back!  What I grabbed was the darling Cute as a Bug Bundle, and I've had so much fun playing!  The only drawback...I've had to fussy cut everything (there are dies, but no machine!)  This card is actually new to me, I think! It's called a Double Panel card, and I'm see a lot of inspiration everywhere for it!  The directions for this one I found with Dawn Griffith, and the design inspiration from the Stamp Doc.  We will be making this one at club this month!

Measurements:

  • Mossy Meadow: 4 1/4" x 10 3/4"
  • Crushed Curry: 3 1/4" x 10"
  • Basic White: 2 1/2" x 4" (top panel); 2 pcs @ 3" x 4 3/4"
  • Cute as a Bug DSP (N): 2 1/4" x 4" (sm flower); 2 3/4" x 4 1/2" (lt green bug print), 2 "bug" die cuts
To Make This Card:
  • Fold  Mossy Meadow card base in half and remove 2 3/4" from the front.  Set aside to be used later.
  • Adhere the small flower DSP to top, front flap.
  • Fold the Crushed Curry inside panel in half.  Attach one white piece to the inside, and one to the outside.
  • Next, attach Bug Print DSP on top of the White piece on top of the Crushed Curry panel.
  • Adhere this "card" to the inside of Mossy Meadow card base, with crease close to the crease of the Mossy card.
  • Next, wrap the Old Olive "trim" around the top flap, coming together at the front and center.
  • Now, stamp sentiment in Black Ink onto lower edge of the smaller White piece.
  • Then, adhere die cut "caterpillar" to front with Dimensionals, and attach to Mossy Meadow piece you cut from the front.
  • Next, attach this piece to the front flap.  Make sure to only add adhesive to the top half of this piece.  I actually used Dimensionals, but I'm not sure that is really necessary.
  • Finish the front with scattered, Old Olive Moody Palette Glossy Dots, and one of the cute Ladybug Garden Epoxy Shapes.
  • Finish the inside of the Crushed Curry card with another "bug" die cut.

Take a Bow Never Ending Card

This is another version of a Never Ending card, that while it is much easier to cut & score, is not as easy to assemble!  It ends up being an even 5" x 5" card, so it's a little more difficult to determine which layer your are decorating!  You will also need to create your own envelope, which you can do with an envelope punch board. What IS easy - you just need 4 equal pieces of cardstock for the base, as well as the pieces to decorate.  I used the Jolly Holly Bundle for the additional stamping, and the retired Take a Bow DSP patterns for the layers. If you didn't want to mess with the evenness of all of the layers, just translate it into a "regular" size!

Measurements:

  • Basic White: 4 pcs @ 2 1/2" x 5", 4 pcs @ 2" square, scraps
  • Take a Bow (ret): 6 pcs @ 2 1/4" square, 8 pcs @ 1" square, 14 pcs @ 1 1/16" x 2 1/4" - use a variety of patterns, you can cut as you go
To Make This Card:
  • We'll begin with the card "mechanism".  Then, I'll guide you through decorating, which will really have many options, depending on your "theme"!
  • Score the 4 White pieces the same: 1 1/4" from each end. Lightly crease.
  • Next, take 2 of the White "base" pieces and line them up so one is on top, and one is below.  The creases and cut edges should also line up!
  • Place Tear n Tape on the top corners of the top piece, and bottom corners of the bottom piece.  Think of these 2 pieces as one big piece!
  • Remove the backings on the Tear n Tape.
  • Next, take the other 2 White pieces and adhere them to the other base pieces. Adhere the corners one at a time, lining up the cut corners, top edges, middles, etc.  This is a very exacting layout.  Trim/shave pieces, if necessary. It should also lay FLAT!
  • Now, go back and re-crease the score lines.  You'll also not have the chance to see the card in motion!! Make sure the layers do not catch anywhere.
  • From here, you add layers to each "face" of the card.  And, you have four!  The "back" is where you will probably want to sign your card, or write a message. Notice that the 3rd layer shows through the 2nd layer, so you will need to plan for that when you add the layers to the 3rd "face". I precut several of the patterns, and then cut as I went.
  • As you decorate, use a variety of items.  Stamps, bling, labels, etc.  Just remember to keep them flat!
