Double Vision Lilly of the Valley

I'm loving this technique! So many possibilities.  Of course, right now I'm lovin' the Valley in Bloom DSP, so I had to give it a try with that!  I've been using the corners and borders a lot more than usual with this DSP! And, this is just another way to use it! This particular idea comes from Susan Campfield.  It also uses her million dollar stamp set - Phrases and Frames - and the new, awesome "Impressions Mat"! Be sure to check out these frames!  They are gorgeous!

Measurements:

  • Pretty Peacock: 1/2 sheet
  • Basic White: 2 pcs @ 4" x 5 1/4" (one for inside), scrap (sentiment)
  • Valley in Bloom DSP (N): 4" x 5 1/4" (corner image), 1/2" x 4" strip (inside)
To Make This Card:
  • Take this DSP piece and cut it into 8 - 1/2" strips. Make sure as you cut you keep them in order!
  • Begin with the farthest LEFT piece and adhere it directly to the White "mounting" piece.
  • Then, LAY the next into place, for spacing, and adhere the next, third, piece.
  • Continue with "placeholder" and adhered piece until 4 pieces are on your card base.
  • Now, for the OTHER 4 pieces.  These will be popped up! For this version, I decided to try Foam Adhesive Strips, which are also a little taller! It was suggested to use the outside edges of your Dimensionals, which I did for my first one.  I think I prefer the "lower" look.
  • Before you line these up and pop them into place, it was suggested to put Multipurpose Glue on top of the adhesive of the Dimensionals to help you slide them into place without them grabbing so fast!  Isn't that neat!
  • I started from the LEFT, again, lined up the pattern, and adhered them into place!
  • Sit back and admire the effect!
  • Now, you can adhere this piece to the folded Pretty Peacock card base.
  • For the sentiment, I used the Phrases and Frames Dies (they are gorgeous),  You cut the die shape first, and then run it through, again, with the Impressions Mat. And, then lastly, stamp the sentiment in Pretty Peacock. (I also just found out, that if you feel like you need a layer, the old Oval Scallop Punch works great!)
  • Finish the inside with a sentiment stamped in Pretty Peacock, and a strip of DSP.
  • Finish the outside with a bow of White Baker's Twine, and scattered Shimmering Dots.

Triple Arch Lily of the Valley

You know me, I LOVE arches!  I saw this card on our Demonstrator Facebook Page and knew I had to give it a try! It uses those awesome Everyday Arches along with the beautiful Valley in Bloom Suite!

Measurements:

  • Granny Apple Green: 3 1/2" x 10 1/2" (base), 4 3/4" x 11" (3 arches); 3 3/4" x 4" (leaves)
  • Basic White: 2 5/8" x 3 3/4" (arch),  2 1/2" x 4 1/4" (2 flower stems), scrap (sentiment)
  • Valley in Bloom DSP (N): 3 pcs @ 3 1/4" x 4 1/2" (1-corner print, 1-white & green print, 1-garden green watercolor)
To Make This Card:

  • Score Granny Apple Green base at 3 1/2" - 7". Accordion fold and crease well.
  • Next, die cut 3 arches from Everyday Arches Dies, using the 3rd largest arch. Note: You can cut all 3 arches from just one strip, the left overs from the base strip - for a total of one sheet!
  • Now, cut the 3 arches from 3 different DSP pieces using the 4th largest arch.  Adhere one DSP arch to each Granny Apple cardstock arch.
  • Then, lastly die cut a White arch using the 6th largest arch.
  • Stamp a sentiment on the this White Arch in Garden Green ink.  I also stamped a portion of the smaller Lily of the Valley image in Granny Apple Green ink.  I colored the "leaves" in with a Lt Granny Apple Green Blend.
  • Now, add this arch to the one with the Watercolor DSP.
  • To create the complete string of arches for the base, adhere each arch to the base, with the adhesive of your choice. Start with the corner flower arch first, and end with the one with the sentiment. As you add each arch, line them up evenly on top of each other.
  • Next, die cut 2 "sprigs" of Lily of the Valley,
  • Also, cut 4 "leaves" in Granny Apple Green.
  • Color the stems with the Dk Granny Apple Green Blend.  I add some color to the leaves with a small Blending Brush and Garden Green ink.
  • Add one "sprig" to the first and second panels with Multipurpose Glue, then add 2 "leaves" to each sprig, bringing any flowers that end up underneath to the front.
  • Stamp sentiment in Garden Green and punch with 3 Banner Punch.  Add to card front with Dimensionals.
  • Finish first panel with Shimmering Dots and a little Wink of Stella on the flowers.
  • Finish the second panel with a White Baker's Twine bow, and a littl Wink of Stella on the flowers.

Pop Up Standing Card

I saw this awesome post of a Fun Fold Class using the Valley in Bloom Suite and All Aflutter Bundle. The folds were absolutely amazing, many of which I had never seen before. So, after some investigating, I bought the instructions for this class, something I rarely do, but these were so worth it. The designer is Liz Shannon from the UK. She is a very talented demonstrator.  However, this sample she designed for a 6" square envelope...I prefer a more "standard" sized card, so I figured out a version that would fit in an A2 envelope!  I am doing this card in a class in June, and feel it still needs a little "tweaking" but this is what I've figured out so far...and I LOVE it!  I also changed the colors up a little bit, and put some acetate between the 2 frames to support the flowers a little better. If you live anywhere close by, you're going to want to come this card class!!

Measurements:

  • Thick Basic White: 1 1/2" x 8 1/2" (base), 2 pcs @ 2 1/8" x 4 1/4" (hexagon "frames");    1 3/8" x 1 3/4" (die cut "extension"); scraps
  • Basic White: 2 1/2" x 4 1/4" (2 flower stems), 2 pcs @ 1 1/8" square (sentiment); scrap (butterfly)
  • Coastal Cabana: 6 pcs @ 1 1/4" square
  • Granny Apple Green: 2" x 3 1/2"
  • Acetate (or, Window Sheet): 2 1/8" x 4 1/4"
  • Valley in Bloom DSP (N): 4 pcs @ 1 1/8" square
To Make this Card:

  • Score Thick White base @ 1 3/8" - 2 3/4" - 4 1/8" - 5 1/2" - 6 7/8" - 8 1/4". You should have 1/4" left at the end. Crease all in "mountain" folds.
  • Take one of the White "sentiment" squares and stamp a small sentiment in Pretty Peacock ink.
  • Adhere square pieces of DSP and square, White pieces to Coastal Cabana squares.
  • Then, attach to card base, with the 1/4" to the left, and starting with a piece with the DSP, then another DSP, followed by a the White piece with the sentiment, 2 DSP squares, and then finally the last White square.
  • Attach Tear & Tape to the 1/4" "extension", and put the base strip together creating a circle.  Set aside.
  • Now, we'll work on the Pop Up.
  • Tape the 2 smallest "hexagons" from the Nested Essentials Dies together and die cut 2 from Thick White.  This will create a "frame". Set one White center aside for the Pop Up mechanism. You will not need the other one.
  • Then, untape the "hexagons". and cut the largest one of these from a piece of Window Sheet or acetate.
  • Now, die cut a small rectangle from the retired Unbounded Love Dies, or cut 2 pieces of Thick White cardstock that measure 3/4" x 1". Glue together.
  • Die cut 2 "sprigs" of Lily of the Valley from "regular" White.
  • Lastly, die cut 2 "leaves" from Granny Apple Green.
  • Oh, you'll also need to stamp 2 of the same butterflies in Coastal Cabana ink and punch with All Aflutter Punch.  Set aside.
  • To assemble the Pop Up.  Adhere the Window Sheet to one Hexagon "frame". Then adhere the other ontop, leaving the bottom "open".
  • Color the "stems" of the Lily of the Valley "sprigs" with the Dk Granny Apple Green Blend.  If desired, add a little color to the Green "leaves" with either or both Granny Apple Green Blends.
  • Using Multipurpose Glue, adhere one Lily of the Valley "sprig" to the assembled "hexagon".  Flip over and adhere the other one.  They don't need to line up.
  • Then, add one "leave" to the left of one "sprig, lifting one or two flowers to the top of the leaf, then flip over and repeat.
  • Now, adhere one butterfly to the "frame", as shown, flip it over, and adhere the corresponding one to the other side. Set aside.
  • Now, for the Pop Up Mechanism.
  • Take the center of the Hexagon frame.  Score down the center (across) from tip to tip. Then score 1/4" from each side of that score line, and 1/4" from each end.
  • Crease, well, in half. Then, crease score lines on either side up, creating a "trench". Lastly, fold the end score lines up. (you'll test this, later!)
  • Take the "rectangle extension" and adhere it to the bottom of the "frame" between the 2 layers.  I used Tear & Tape.
  • Next, take the "hexagon" piece with the "trench", place Tear & Tape in the trench so you have adhesive on both sides.  Then, insert the "extension" into the trench and press together firmly.
  • For the last step, insert the Pop Up into the "base", with the "hexagon" trench pointed down, centering  behind the "sentiment" square. Place Tear & Tape on the 1/4" left, and adhere to base with the score line even with the bottom, cut edge. Repeat for the back side.
  • Pull the "frame" up, and it should pop into place! (And stand up).
  • Finish with double White Baker's Twine bow, and scattered Shimmering Dots.
