Layered Florals Reverse Blackout Technique

This gorgeous, retired embossing folder is all over the internet using this awesome technique! So many options with what colors to use, or not, and with a BLACK background, is absolutely stunning.  For this sample, I colored FIRST (yes, wrong side & into the recesses), and then added the Black ink to the wrong side, of the background.  Add a sentiment from the More Messages and a few scattered bling, and you're done! The picture, here, just doesn't do this card justice!

Measurements:

  • Balmy Blue: 1/2 sheet
  • Basic Black: 4" x 5 1/4"
  • Basic White: 4 1/8" x 5 3/8" (embossed), 4" x 5 1/4" (inside) scrap
To Make This Card:
  • Emboss larger White piece with Embossing Folder.  (I actually think the Hibiscus folder in the Online Store would be good, too!)
  • Flip over to the "wrong" side (the images will be more "recessed", If you get it wrong, you'll know when you add the background.  Believe me, I did!)
  • I colored all the leaves, first, in Granny Apple Green.  Then I colored all the flower centers in Daffodil Delight.
  • Decide what color ink you prefer for the background, and drag it over the cardstock, tipping the ink pad, so you are just using a "flat edge".  If you feel the need to darken the color, try lightly circling the ink color..
  • Layer the colored piece to the Black layer.  Then, add to folded Balmy Blue card base.
  • For the sentiment, I did a full sheet of the messages from the More Messages bundle, and chose one that I wanted, and added to the card front with Dimensionals.
  • Then, I added scattered Iridescent, Faceted Gems and Wink of Stella to the flowers, and Voila, you're done!
