Fragrant Layers Vellum & Blends Marbled Card

How about a blast from the past!  It's been almost 5 years since I first played with this technique!  So long ago I even have a video (here and on YouTube) demonstrating it! (I even went back and watched it!) When I saw this gorgeous "framed" image in the Fragrant Layers Dies, I could envision a faux stained glass behind it!  Vellum, Blends and 91% Alcohol to the rescue!  I just LOVE how they turned out! The "blue" one is 2 colors - Summer Splash and Azure Afternoon, and the "Pool Party" one is 3 colors - Flirty Flamingo, Summer Splash, and Highland Heather - all the darkest shades of the Blend combos!  For the "blue" one, the "frame" is Thick White cardstock, for the "Pool Party" one I used the new Pastel Shimmer in the Online Store for the "frame".  It's a little messy, but worth the effort! And, oh so fast for an absolutely gorgeous card!

Measurements:

  • Thick Basic White/Pastels Shimmer (N) (OE): 3" x 4" (frame)
  • Basic White: 1/2 sheet
  • Vellum: 3 3/4" x 5"
To Make This Card:

  • Take the 2 (or more) Darkest Blends, and randomly color all over the vellum. Note: I place it on my silicone mat! Now, take a paint brush or Aqua Painter or Water Brush and dab the 91% Alcohol on top of the blends.  Allowing the colors to bleed.  Set aside to dry, or dry with a heat tool.  Note: I find it curls more if allowed to dry naturally.
  • How do you decide what colors to use? If you are using colored cardstock for bases or layers, decide which colors you are going to use.  Consult your Color Wheel or Color Coach for ideas. (I did for the Pool Party one!) Check out other samples - I have a few on my blog from 5 years ago! Whatever you do, try on a scrap of Vellum first!  Sometimes the colors do not bleed in a very appealing manner!
  • Die cut the the "frame" from whatever cardstock you desire!  Also consider Shimmers, Glimmers, or use an Embossing Folder! Note: This frame only cuts out the CENTER.  YOU decide how big the piece is!
  • Now, to assemble!
  • Take a look at your Vellum piece.  Sometimes the color pools on the outside, cut edges. If this is the case, trim a little off those edges.  Vellum is awesome for really narrow trims!
  • Next, place Multipurpose Glue on the outside edge of the wrong side to the "frame.  You could put a few dots on critical "intersections" if desired.  Adhere to center of Vellum
  • Then, place adhesive on the wrong side of this piece, over frame, hiding adhesive.  I just used a tape runner for this!
  • Then, adhere to folded card base!
  • Finish with coordinating gems for the "flower" centers. I used retired Flat Pearls colored with Blends for the "blue" sample, and Frosted Iridescent Dots for the "Pool Party" one! Add a small, light bow, if desired.

Fragrant Layers Shaker Card

I'm using the new Online Fragrant Layers Bundle in club this Saturday, so I was giving the bundle a go for some inspiration to share! It really IS a fun bundle to play with  It has SO MANY creative possibilities, that I haven't even begun to explore!  This one is a "Becky Original" (or at least I haven't seen it used as a shaker, yet!) I used the neat frame in the dies, and paired it with the Beautiful Bokeh DSP and the retired Itty Bitty Bokeh Mix for the shakers.

Measurements:

  • Fresh Freesia: 1/2 sheet
  • Beautiful Bokeh DSP (AC): 4" x 5 1/4"
  • Thick Basic White: 2 7/8" x 3 7/8" (frame)
  • Basic White: 4" x 5 1/4" (inside); 2 1/4" x 3 1/2" (label)
  • Window Sheet: 2 7/8" x  3 7/8"
To Make This Card:

  • Adhere DSP to folded Fresh Freesia card base.
  • Die cut "frame" from Thick White cardstock.  Adhere Window sheet to wrong side with Multipurpose Glue.
  • Place Foam Adhesive Strips to wrong side of frame.
  • I decided to have make this card with a horizontal orientation, so the "shaker" will be on the left side.
  • Place shaker material on the left side of card.  Remove backing of Foam Strips and place "shaker". over shaker material. And, voila you have a "shaker"!
  • Stamp longer sentiment in Basic Gray ink onto piece of White.  Die cut with chosen label die.  Adhere to front as shown.
  • Finish front with Iridescent Ribbon Bow and scattered Frosted Iridescent Dots.
