Surprise Banner Card

This creation was designed by Liz Shannon and stamped by fellow demo and club member, Jeanette Proenneke! Jeanette took Liz's guidance and created her own sample using different, but coordinating colors, along with a message on the banners! I'm looking forward to giving this one a try!

Measurements:

  • Lost Lagoon: 2 pcs @ 3" x 8"
  • Highland Heather: 1/4 sheet
  • Basic White: 2 pcs @ 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" (bases, 2 largest flags); 5 pcs @ 2" x 3" (2nd from largest flags); 2 pcs @ 3 1/4" x 3 1/2" (butterflies)
  • Valley in Bloom DSP (N): 2 pcs @ 2 3/4" x 3 3/4" (bases, sm lilies); 2 pcs @ 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" (center flags, sm lilies); 3 pcs @ 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" (center flags, aqua plaid)
To Make This Card:

  • Fold both bases in half. Score well, and adhere the DSP (small lilies) to the front of each one.
  • Die cut 2 of the largest "banners" from the Nested Essentials Dies.
  • Stamp sentiments in Pretty Peacock ink onto these pieces, and then adhere to the front of each base.
  • Next, die cut 5 "banners/flags" from the largest die in the small lily/aqua plaid DSP.
  • Now, cut 5 "banners/flags? from the 2nd from the largest die in White cardstock.
  • Next, line up the DSP "banners" alternating prints. Jeanette started and ended with the plaid. Once laid out, adhere a White banner to each DSP one.
  • Then, die cut "hello" from alphabet set in Highland Heather cardstock and adhere to each White "banner".
  • To create full "banner", stack all 5 "banners" on top of each other and using a "pokey tool" and piercing mat, poke holes in the upper corners with a Darning Needle or small hole punch.
  • Next, thread approx 16" of Linen Thread through the holes, so that the thread lies to the wrong side of each "banner".  You can use a Darning Needle for small holes, or just thread it through for larger ones.
  • Now, lay out the "banner" into its' finished positions.
  • Take the remaining thread ends, and tape them to the inside of each base, near the score line.
  • Then, add the White layer inside and over the thread.
  • Next, stamp the more open "detail" of the butterflies from the All Aflutter stamp set in black ink onto White cardstock. You might want to repeat this so that you have 6-9 butterflies.
  • Now, color them with Blends, or stamp them with the solid stamp and stamped off ink.
  • Then, punch out with coordinating punch.
  • I like to add Wink of Stella to my butterflies, before adding it to my project!
  • Next, decorate the bases with the butterflies.  You could also add some to the insides of the bases and the "banner" pieces, if desired.
  • Finish with scattered Shimmering Dots.
