Peaceful Garden Triple Bridge Z-Fold Card

I found this awesome interactive-fold card on Facebook. I just loved it!!  It was unlike anything I could remember seeing. It took me awhile to track down the info, but I finally found it!  The one I found, was designed by Connie Stewart, earlier this month. She called it a Triple Bridge Z-Fold Card. She also had free instructions and an awesome video to go with it!  I tried her one using the Traditions of Christmas Bundle. (I'll share it soon, too!) But, I created this one using the Peaceful Garden Bundle..a "Becky Original" for my Stamp Club this month!  I was really pleased with my result!

Measurements:

  • Secret Sea (N): 8" x 11"
  • Misty Moonlight: 4" x 5 1/4" (back message layer), 2 1/4" x 3 3/4" (label)
  • Basic White: 3 3/4" x 5" (back message layer), 2" x 4 1/4" (label message), scrap (dove)
  • Peaceful Garden Glimmer Paper (N)(MC): scrap
  • Peaceful Garden DSP (N) (MC): 6 pcs @ 1 1/8" x 4", 2 5/8" x 4" (center layer) (I started with a 4" strip, and cut most of these from it). (back side of "doves); 3 pcs @ 1" x 5 1/4" (long z-fold), 3 pcs @ 1" x 1 1/8" (short z-fold) (doves) - pay attention to direction!
To Make this Card:
  • Cut the "base" and "Z-fold" pieces from the larger Secret Sea piece!
  • First, with the 11" at the top, score at 1 3/8" - 2 3/4"
  • Next, with the 8" at the top, CUT at 4 1/4". You'll be left with a strip that is 3 3/4" x 11", and scored at one end only.
  • Cut the 3 3/4" x 11" strip into 3- 1 1/4" pieces!
  • Take the larger piece, and score the opposite end at 1 3/8" and 2 3/4" as well. Create "Z" folds at each end. Crease well.
  • Now, select 4 of the 6 - 1 1/8" strips and adhere them to the corresponding "z's".(the 2 on each outside).
  • Next, we'll work with the 3 "bridges".  Fold the scored end of each strip in a "Z". If there is any cardstock extending, trim it now.
  • Adhere the longer strips to the long edges, and the smaller pieces right next to the longer edges.  The last one is left undecorated, for now. (Note: my DSP is DIRECTIONAL.  These "bridges" go in opposite directions, so think ahead! The top and bottom go one way, and the middle "bridge" gets flipped the other way, so turn DSP accordingly, so when the "bridges" are mounted all the DSP is going the "right" direction!)
  • Now, to adhere the "bridges" to the card base.
  • First, you'll want to make sure each "bridge" fits correctly before you adhere it! Do a "trial run" by placing it in it's finished position, and close card as it will be meant to close.  It is a little "bulky" in the creases, but that's to be expected. What you don't want, are the edges extending PAST the score lines.  If they are, do some trimming, where you can!
  • Flip each of the "bridges" over.  Place Tear n Tape on the remaining 1" area, and the far end of the long strip.
  • To adhere these, do the top and bottom "bridges" first! Line up the corner of the LONG edge to the corner of the top "Z". Fold card into position, and the other cut edge will line up with the crease on the other side. Test fold, and then adhere, well.
  • Repeat for the top "bridge" as well.
  • The center "bridge" is centered between the other two.  It gets adhered in the same manner but opening the other way.  So cool!
  • Fold entire card flat, to fit in an envelope!
  • You aren' t done, yet!
  • Take the last 2 - 1 1/8" strips and adhere them inside, OVER, the tabs.
  • The center piece gets adhered to the center!
  • NOW, the base is done!
  • For this one, I tried a few different things, and settle on Connie's version for her Traditions of Christmas design. This uses a "label" in Misty Moonlight, and a "sentiment" stamped in Misty Moonlight, and die cut with one of the dies from the Traditional Labels bundle.
  • That will fit nicely centered on the center "bridge".
  • I also added a die cut dove, with a shimmer "olive branch".
  • I finished the front with a knot of Silver-edge Ribbon,.and a couple clear Faceted Snowflakes.
  • For the back, where you can write your message, I added 2 layers of cardstock, and stamped a sentiment in Misty Moonlight ink with a message from the Traditional Labels Bundle.
