Butterfly Pop & Flip Card

This is another neat fold shared by Dawn Griffith!!  She has THE most amazing folds!!  I had not done/seen this fold before, so, of course, I had to try it!  I was going to do this in my Butterfly Card Fold class this month, but with the papers gone, I am turning this into a Virtual Card Fold Class.  So stay tuned to some instructional videos!!

Measurements:

  • Just Jade: 1/2 sheet,  3" x 4" (mechanism), 3/4" x 2 1/4" (mechanism)
  • Basic White:2" x 3", 4" x 5 1/4"
  • Butterfly Bijou DSP (ret): 4" x 5 1/4"
To Make This Card

  • Fold Just Jade card in half.  Attach White quarter to the inside.
  • Attach DSP to front of card, around the outside edges only. Cut Stitched Oval from front of card.  Keep the cardstock oval, and discard the DSP
  • Cut smaller Stitched Oval from Basic White piece.  Layer onto Jade Oval.
  • Score the 3" x 4" Jade piece at 1", 2", 3". Crease well.  Fold this piece in half. Add Tear & Tape to one outside 1" area, one of the ends. Flip this over and adhere to inside of card, with cut edge along fold of card. "Eyeball" this so it is centered behind the Oval opening.
  • Keeping this piece folded in half, add Tear & Tape to the other "end" and close the card!  Voila the first mechanism/pop up!
  • Now, take the 3/4" strip and scor at 1 1/4". Hold in half and crease well. Flip over so the longer side is up, and place Tear & Tape on this area. Close your card, and place this mechanism so the adhesive side is down, short side is up, and cut edge is against the oval. Press down.
  • Now place some adhesive on the shorter side. Close card, and place cut oval in the opening and attach to the flap with the adhesive on it. Check to see that it works!!  Isn't it fun!!
  • Finish by adding image to the front. As well as any sentiments.
  • And I added a cut butterfly, and words to the inside as well.
  • My card wouldn't stay closed, so I added a clear velcro dot!

Welcoming Window Meets Grace's Garden

Having made at least one card with the Welcoming Window Bundle, I wanted to create another using other pieces of the bundle.  I ended up pairing it with the dies from Grace's Garden and came up with this darling, detailed card, which we will be doing this Saturday at our Monthly Club Meeting.

Measurements:

  • Balmy Blue: 1/2 sheet cut LENGTHWISE, scrap
  • Misty Moonlight: 4" x 5 1/4"
  • Basic White:3 3/4" x 5", 2" x 4 1/4" (gate), 2 3/4" x 8 1/2" strip
  • Granny Apple Green: scrap
To Make This Card:

  • Run Basic White piece through Pinewood Planks EF. Attach to folded Balmy Blue with Misty Moonlight layer card.
  • Stamp 2 "shutters" in stamped off Balmy Blue. Stamp "window", "pitcher" and 3 -"tall pots"  in Misty Moonlight. Stamp "kitty" in Basic Gray. Cut out with corresponding dies.
  • Die cut 4 "round bush" blanks. Set up "template" on Stamparatus base. Place "blanks" into "template" and stamp "greenery" in Granny Apple Green.  Then, flip Stamparatus plate and stamp flowers in colors shown.
  • Cut 2 "vines" from Granny Apple Green cardstock.
  • Cut 2 "arbors" from Basic White.  Trim off "arch", bottom edge and sides, if necessary.
  • Press "window sill" into Balmy Blue ink.  Place of scrap of Balmy Blue and cut out.
  • Now, it's time to build your "scene"! I taped the "shutters" to the the window with Scotch Tape. Adhere to the card, near the top.  Add "window sill".
  • Center 1 "tall pot" under "window", add 1 pot on either side.  Attach flowers to pots.  Attach green vines as shown. Trim & add "fence" over pots.
  • Finish by attaching "pitcher" to "window sill" with Dimensional, as well as "flowers" and kitty to the "window sill" as well.

Potted Simply Succulents

I saw a similar card using the detailed frame from the Potted Succulent dies in white, along with the flowers sponged with our new Blending Brushes. This is my version, that we did in Club this morning. I stamped the flowers in Basic Gray (theirs was embosssed in white) and cut the detailed frame from the Blushing Bride Foil, from the Love You Always Foil DSP.

Measurements:

  • Petal Pink: 1/1 sheet
  • Blushing Bride Foil: 4" x 5 1/4"
  • Basic White:3 1/2" x 4 1/4", scrap
To Make This Card:

  • Run the detailed succulent die with the Blushing Bride Foil.  Clear out pieces (what a mess!) Attach to folded Petal Pink card with Multipurpose Glue and a quarter sponge.
  • Stamp "succulents" in Basic Gray ink.  Highlight with Dk Petal Pink and Dk Mint Macaron Blends, and then sponge in coordinating color with Blending Brushes. Cut out with corresponding die.
  • Stamp "pot" in Basic Gray ink.  Color with Smokey Slate Blends as shown.  Attach pot, flat, to card and pop "flowers" with Dimensionals.
  • Finish with Champagne Rhinestones in the centers.

Butterfly Corner Flip

I saw a Valentine card done with this fold, but didn't have time to try it.  So, I decided to try it using the Butterfly Brilliance Bundle...and now the paper is no longer available.  I guess I'll have to redo it using something NEW!! (I have some darling Pansies coming!) Stay tuned.  I am hoping to do more videos with these more detailed folds!!

Measurements:

  • Calypso Coral: 1/2 Sheet
  • Basic White: 3 pcs - 4" x 5 1/4"
  • DSP:3 3/4" x 5"
To Make This Card:

  • Begin by making the corner "template". Take one of the Basic White pieces.  Measure along the short side 2 3/4" and place a mark.  Then, measure along the long side to 3 1/2" and make a mark.  Draw a line with a pencil, connecting the 2 marks. Cut along this line.  Save the triangle, and discard the rest of the piece. Use it for another card.
  • Fold card base in half. Place "template" along upper left corner of card. Score along "pencil" line with Bone Folder.  It should lightly transfer to the back side.  Flip card front over and repeat for the back side. Now, carefully fold along score lines, inverting the corner to the inside of card.
  • Take one of the other Basic White pieces. and lay inside the card, leaving an 1/8" border.  Mark the score line and trim this piece.  Trim approx 1/8" from the cut edge.  Check for fit.  Take the small corner you removed, and fit to the upper triangle. The inside layering is done!
  • To layer the outside.  Repeat with the Basic White piece. Using the scored/folded edge as a guide to cut your White layer, and then repeating with the DSP layer.  Always allowing for an 1/8" border!!
  • Decorate front as desired.
  • Some will also place DSP on the upper, inside flap of card.  Your choice!!
